The Hot SardinesThursday, July 14, 2011 at 6:00 Steeped in hot jazz, salty stride piano, and the kind of foot-stomping blues Louis Armstong and Fats Waller used to make, the Hot Sardines’ love of almost century-old sounds also extends to Parisian music-hall chansons. A tap dancer and guest accordionist Mira Stroika round out this special Bastille Day fête. In the spirit of Bastille Day, dress in your French-inspired best: Parisian coquette, Marie Antoinette, Moulin Rouge, Folies Bergère, or even street mime. Prizes will be awarded for the best costumes. Hot Jazz, French Chanson The previously scheduled Caravan Palace performance has been canceled. Dance Lesson: Angela Harriel Teaches Lindy Hip Hop & Electro Coast Swing Presented in association with Gemini and Scorpio, creators of themed costume events with live entertainment. G&S’s speakeasy-style Swing House party, which Time Out New York says is “like a remixed version of the roaring ’20s, with live music and burlesque dancing” and “an event worth wearing that ridiculous zoot suit,” is now in its fourth year, happening mostly in underground Brooklyn lofts. The party draws loyal costumed dancers for both authentic vintage jazz and electro-swing. Damrosch Park |
